My girls absolutely love to read and be read too. We read books every night before bed and the girls love their new one Dabbling Doezee!
My girls absolutely loved the story of Doezee and Rudy the 2 ducks who were friends but so different! These 2 ducks were different types of ducks and could both do different things. Rudy was a diving duck and one a Doezee was a Mallard dabbling duck! The girls loved learning about these 2 different types of ducks and the different things that they could do.
“Doezee is a mallard. She is a dabbler. Dabbling means that when a duck looks for food in the water, the head goes underwater and the tail tips up in the air. Dabbling ducks often look for food on top of or under shallow water. Dabbling ducks usually have larger wings than diving ducks. Dabblers can fly straight up with one flap of their wings.
A female duck is called a duck.
Rudy is a ruddy. He is a stiff-tailed diver. Diving ducks go all the way under the water to look for food. Some diving ducks do not walk well on land because they have bigger feet set farther back on their bodies. Sometimes diving ducks patter on the water surface to build up speed so that they can fly. A male duck is called a drake. Rudy is a diving drake.” (Doezee Website)
“Dabbling Doezee is a picture book written for early readers (ages 3-8). It is a story about two duck friends, Doezee and Rudy. The idea for this story came to me while hiking with my two dogs. We were in a wetlands preserve near Seattle. Ducks were feeding, flying, and swimming all around us. I watched ducks dabble and other ducks dive. I wondered if my nieces and nephews knew about differences between dabbling and diving ducks; I wrote the book to spark their curiosity. As the story unfolds, Doezee and Rudy discover their unique abilities. Their friendship helps them to survive when facing danger. Tracy Herrmann illustrated the story. She has received many accolades on her beautiful, colorful images in this book.” (Dabbling Doezee Press Release)
