I received these products from Annie Sloan Unfolded for my review. All opinions are my own.
I saw this cute little toddler bed one of my friends was selling and thought it was the perfect little project for me. I couldn’t wait to re-paint it and bring it back to life. I decided on Chalk Paint® decorative paint by Annie Sloan for this project since my sister uses it for her projects and highly recommends it.
For my project I used:
Chalk Paint® decorative paint by Annie Sloan- Pure White
Annie Sloan Soft Wax- Clear
Annie Sloan Pure Bristle Brush
The bed I purchased was pretty worn out and had some damage. I started by filling in the damaged spaces with plastic wood. I like plastic wood because it dries quickly. Then once it was dry I sanded it then wiped the areas clean.
Next I started painting. Yep! White on this dark wood stain with NO PRIMER NEEDED! That is why Chalk Paint® is a great choice.
I really like the way theChalk Paint® is very easy to use and dries very quickly. By the time I had coated all the pieces the first would be dry and I could start again. Be careful though because it dries so fast if you get any globs (on the backside of a piece) they will dry before you notice them. The best way to avoid this is to only use a little paint at a time.
I really liked using the Annie Sloan Pure Bristle Brush. It is actually my favorite brush I have used on my DIY projects. I used the brush for painting the bed as well as applying wax and really like the way it applies paint and wax.
“Made of pure bristle, this is a great brush for painting, particularly to achieve texture. It is oval, with a metal ferule and wooden handle.
These type of brushes have always been my favourite as they allow you paint expressively as the bristle is strong and firm but pliable. They can also be used for applyng wax.”-Annie Sloan
Since the stain on the wood was pretty dark I had to paint on 3 coats of the Chalk Paint® to get the coverage I was looking for.
Since all the Chalk Paint® coats were on it was time to wax. The wax finishes the piece and seals it. Since the Chalk Paint® provides a matte look, the wax will make it smooth if that is the feel/look you want. If you haven’t used wax before, I really like this tutorial video on how to use Annie Sloan wax from Eco Chic Boutique. I used the Annie Sloan clear soft wax. I really liked how easy it was to apply and it provided a great finish to the bed.
I was also impressed by how a little bit of product went a long way. I have enough paint and wax left over to use on future projects, which is great.
I was very excited to get the toddler bed put together and in my daughters room. It turned out so beautifully!
Here are some before and after pics of the bed…
