Crocs are probably the last thing that come to mind when you think about fashion comebacks. But thanks to celebrities, the famous Crocs footwear is regaining its spot in the limelight.
Anybody who has worn a pair of these iconic shoes knows just how comfortable they are. Their lightweight, easy-to-slip-on, and low-maintenance nature quickly made them a favourite option for so many people, mainly in the garden or for those lazing at home. Plus, they’re pretty affordable too.
Although crocs seemed to have lost their spell in previous years, this year has witnessed a surge in crocs sales. In the first quarter of this year alone, crocs sales rose by 64%, with sales still expected to go even higher before the year ends. Although some people believe that the pandemic is to blame, the fact is that some celebrities have also played huge roles in influencing the comeback of crocs. With famous faces like Justin Bieber and other celebrities spotted in crocs – are they making a comeback?
Crocs Stock Prices Soar
Let’s not get it twisted; not everybody is excited about crocs or how they look. Many people do not find this footwear anything near fashionable – and to be honest, they’re not. But even though crocs are not designed to make a fashion statement, we have witnessed some bold celebrities rocking them even on red carpet events.
Despite the divisive nature of crocs, it looks unlikely that this footwear will disappear anytime soon, especially with the effect of the pandemic. Crocs stock price has now more than doubled, thanks to celebrities putting them in the limelight.
The Pandemic and Social Media
Nobody can downplay the role of the pandemic in reviving the ‘love’ for crocs. With more and more people spending their days locked up at home, there has been very little need to look fashionable. People resorted to crocs, as it offers the comfort and ease they needed in footwear at home. Plus, few people cared what they wore, as long as they were comfortable.
In a couple of years, when luxury loungewear takes over office wear, the resurgence of crocs should not come as a surprise. Then there is the effect of popular social media platforms like Tik Tok, Twitter, etc., where more and more famous people have been spotted rocking this footwear.
Celebrities Spotted In Crocs
The official Twitter account of Crocs Shoes posted a picture on 11th March 2021 of Justin Bieber surrounded by crocs, trying to promote the idea of crocs with socks. Aside from the fact that “crocs with socks” rhymes pretty nicely, the picture only went to showcase the growing popularity of this footwear in the past couple of years.
Like Justin Bieber, other celebrities like Post Malone have gone further to partner with the company to manufacture their signature crocs footwear. Bieber’s croc’s pairs sold out faster than most people expected, and the ones currently available are way above the market price. Famous names like Disney have also signed major deals with the footwear company to have their styles created.
Some mention-worthy celebrities spotted rocking a pair of crocs footwear include the following – Questlove (with his pair of gold Crocs at the year’s Academy Awards), Ariana Grande, Ruby Rose, Bad Bunny, to mention a few. Other celebrities have resorted to showcasing their rekindled love for Crocs footwear on social media. This included Luke Combs, Drew Barrymore, Yang Mi, KISS, PSY, and many more.
It is important to note that most celebrities posted their custom-branded crocs from their partnerships with the company.
Beyond The US
The comeback wave is blowing way beyond the shores of the United States. In Australia, for example, a host of social media influencers and celebrities have been seen strutting their stuff while rocking this quirky footwear.
The effect of solid collaboration between the Crocs company and American stars like Post Malone and Justin Bieber has proven to be a master-stroke. The publicity has been nothing short of spectacular.
Whether you love these rubbery foam shoes or consider the design hideous, the fact remains that crocs have made a comeback, and they’re here to stay.
