Poised to attract an audience of kids, as well as the parents and educators who grew up with the television series in the 1990s, each episode of Captain Planet and the Planeteersfinds the Planeteers on a new quest. Whatever the problem, from garbage dumping to rainforest destruction, the Planeteers are ready to take action. With the aid of rings given to them by Gaia, the Spirit of Earth, they each control one special element of nature – Earth, wind, water, fire and heart. The Planeteers use their powers to take on environmental disasters created by the eco-villains. "You must have faith in yourselves," Gaia tells her newly recruited Planeteers. "You’re fighting for the good of the whole world." When the situation becomes critical, they join their powers together to summon Captain Planet.
Captain Planet and the Planeteers work together to prevent the eco-villains from looting and polluting the Earth’s resources. Once the problem is under control, Captain Planet returns to the Earth, leaving this message for Planeteers everywhere — "The power is yours!" Each episode ends with a 30-second tag including tips on how people can be a part of the solution.
This acclaimed animated series motivates today’s youth to get involved in saving our planet and explores the profound impact of environmental activism, and relating it to issues that face all of us today. Go Planet!
Executive producers of Captain Planet and the Planeteers are Andy Heyward, Robby London, Barbara Pyle and Nick Boxer. The series is directed by Will Meugniot. The idea for Captain Planet was originated by R.E. Turner.”
I had never heard of Captain Planet cartoons until now. But my husband remembers watching them as a child. We sat down and watched the episodes together and it was fun to remember how cartoons were in the 1990’s it made us both feel nostalgic. Our 3 year old is really into Super Hero’s so we thought it would be great to introduce him to this Eco-Friendly super hero who can teach him to take care of his planet. Bug immediately took to the show, he loves it and asks to watch it regularly. I do have to mention that there are a few topics discussed on the show that I don’t agree with. I won’t get into the details since I don’t want to spark a political debate 🙂 I just want to mention it so you as parents can watch each episode and decide how you feel. I have chosen to not show Bug the episode(s) that bother me. Problem solved.
