I was invited by Disney on an all expenses paid trip for my coverage of the #GoodDinoEvent, #ABCTVEvent, & #LionGuardEvent. All opinions are my own.
I am so excited to share this experience with you all. While in LA I had the chance to visit the set of ABC’s blackish! This was my very first set visit and it was such a cool experience.
We had a very talented and beautiful tour guide on set, Tracee Ellis Ross herself, who plays Bow Johnson, the mother of the Johnson family and a doctor on blackish. Read my post where Tracee Ellis Ross talks with us about working on blackish.
Here is a fun picture that I got of me standing in the kitchen of the Johnson home.
There is a big curtain that goes all the way around the set with trees and greenery so when the inside of the house is being filmed it looks like there is a real outside through the windows and doors.
Here is a look outside from the front door of the Johnson home. You can see the curtain that provides the “outside” backdrop.
The layout of this set is very much like a real house.
Since it is not filmed with an audience, it doesn’t have the open sets that make it so the audience can watch filming. Instead, each room has 4 walls and some of the walls are removable making it easier for the crew to film depending on the angle they want to shoot.
I loved seeing all of the small details on the set, and what a great job the crew has done in making it look and feel like a real home where people actually live. It truly is an art.
In the kitchen, I had to peek into the refrigerator and freezer to see what the Johnson family has inside.
All of the cabinets and drawers are filled with items, so if one is opened you will see actual household items inside. Tracee showed us the Johnson family “junk drawer” and told us how she uses the drawers in the home to place her scripts, that way between takes and scenes, she can grab a quick peek at it if needed.
My favorite part of the tour was being able to see the bedrooms of the Johnson home.
The kids rooms are decorated so fun and adorable. I love all of the bright colors and patterns.
This Master Bedroom and bath are to die for! When can I move in? Haha, but seriously, how nice is this?
The closet is amazing, and it is so funny that it is all Dre’s stuff. Tracee told us that Bow’s stuff is “supposed to be” inside the cabinets lining the walkway into the closet. I think it’s very funny that it is all his stuff. That is a lot of shoes for a man. I’m pretty sure he has every color of sneaker available. 😉
I loved being able to see all the rooms from blackish and behind the scenes on set. It was fun while walking through to remember seeing the rooms in previous episodes of blackish. And of course it makes watching the show even more fun for me now, having been there in person.
Another brand new episode of blackish airs tonight on ABC at 9:30/8:30c. Be sure to tune in!
POPS AND RUBY TRY TO SHOW THE KIDS THE TRUE MEANING OF CHRISTMAS BY PARING DOWN GIFTS AND SPENDING MORE TIME TOGETHER, AND DAPHNE LIDO INVITES HERSELF OVER TO CELEBRATE WITH THE JOHNSONS, ON ABC’S “black-ish”
The episode that is on tonight is called “Stuff” – “Dre thinks Christmas has become commercialized and is all about “stuff,” and no one loves “stuff” more than his kids. Pops and Ruby think they have forgotten the true meaning of Christmas and come up with a new plan to pare down gifts and spend more time together. The kids don’t handle the news well and hope that if they put on their best behavior Dre and Bow will cave in
.
Meanwhile, Daphne Lido (played by Wanda Sykes), who is single for her first holiday alone, invites herself to the Johnson family home to celebrate with them, on “black-ish,” WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 9 (9:31-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.“-ABC
