How is your summer going? I hope it is filled with lots of fun, sun, and happy memories! But have your kids been keeping up with their reading? Summer can be hard- you want to let your kids be free to be kids, but it is still important to make sure that they don’t lose too much for the “summer slide”!
Did you know that two months of reading skills are LOST over the summer and that it can take up to two months from the first day of school for a student’s brain development to get back on track? “Brain drain” is very real and has lasting repercussions that can impact a student’s long-term academic performance.
One of the most effective, easiest and affordable ways to ensure students are on track academically come September is to make sure kids have access to books throughout the summer. Whether it’s making library visits a part of the summer schedule, starting a neighborhood book swap or incorporating a trip to the local bookstore as part of an outing to the ice cream shop, there are lots of ways to get kids hooked on reading this summer.
As the best selling kids almanac on the planet, the National Geographic Kids Almanac has helped millions of kids beat the summer slide. The key to getting a child to pick up a book is to find one that interests them, and the Almanac 2018 has something for EVERYONE. Featuring over 350 pages and 500 amazing photographs, a shark-themed Almanac Newsmaker Challenge and packed with 10 sections of high interest topics ranging from animal life to sports to things to do, places to see and ways to change the world, the Nat Geo Kids Almanac 2018 (ages 8-12, $14.99) is the perfect way to take a big bite out of the summer slide.
For parents searching for a great read for their kids that’s perfect for the back seat, camp, vacation, or down time at home, the National Geographic Kids Almanac 2018 is by far the best catch of the summer.
Whenever I get an email about a review from National Geographic Kids books, I barely even skim over the titles before replying YES!!! Nat Geo Kids has the very best books. They are beloved favorites in our house! Nat Geo has a way of mixing fun and education that has had them popular for generations. The pictures are always so colorful and interesting, kids cannot help but be drawn into the books. And when they’re learning about cultures, animals, geography, science, and so much more, it’s the biggest win/win ever. My boys LOVE their National Geographic Kids Almanac 2018. It is SO funny because my oldest was not home when we got the package with their Almanac- but both of my boys did the EXACT same thing upon opening up the book- they immediately went and found their 2017 Almanac (which has been poured over for hours- I tell you the truth.) and compared the population numbers of our state of Minnesota. Seriously- both boys did that first at different times! They love geography so much, and can read and re-read the info about states and countries over and over again. I cannot count the number of times I’ve heard “Mom, did you know that…” while they are engaged in a Nat Geo book. What more can I say? You’re already clicking around to grab a copy, right?
