When I first saw these wooden marble ramps and balls from Bambino Builders, I knew we needed to have some. While I know both boys and girls enjoy this type of play, as a child care provider, I know that boys gravitate more towards this. Balls and movement are gold for little boy entertainment- and learning! I was so excited when they arrived- such amazing quality, and I love that everything was handmade in the USA! Kacie is so sweet, and I love being able to directly support her small business! Are they not gorgeous? Not only are they an amazing toy, but are seriously beautiful and look great on the shelf- win/win. I am really trying to move away from all the plastic, flashy, noisy, bright, electronic toys, and gather more natural, open-ended, wooden toys. Not that all plastic and noisy toys are bad, they just seem to fail to keep kids quite as interested over time, break down, and can be overstimulating for kids. The Montessori method, Waldorf education, and the Reggio-Emilia approach all push for toys and tools that are natural, wooden, and invite children to imaginative, self-directed play and learning. These ramp collections are PERFECT for that! Set out these pieces and just watch your child’s imagination come to life. I knew my kids were going to love them because they love playing with marble tracks. Like, for hours. But you see that baby in the top left below? Babies and marbles don’t mix. And marbles have a way of rolling into the great unknown of the living room where only the teeny fingers that shouldn’t have them can find them. While I probably wouldn’t hand him one of these wooden balls, the constant fear that marbles gave me was intense, and I’m so happy we have an awesome alternative, that may just be even better than the marbles themselves! I just love the ramp stackers- what a great idea! The rubber bands help the ramps stay in place, and there are just endless ways to make fun ramps. My kids have figured out how to make them kind of zig zag now too, and they just love that. They even drive cars on the ramps as well, and do big drop offs for dramatic fun. I cannot say enough about these, they are a hit in my house! And I love that they will last for generations, and will be played with for years and years to come.
