The story starts off with Ron Burgundy at the height of his career, just to watch as he is knocked off of his perch and falls to rock bottom. But not all is lost. There is a 24-hour news station that wants Ron Burgundy. Ron gathers up his old crew, which have all hit rock bottom as well, and through a series of struggles they are able again to come together and share the news.
The Ron Burgundy team however has the worst time slot on the new 24-hour station. Ron has to prove his team really has what it takes to be the prime-time team. With a series of stunts Ron is able to gather views and quickly go up the ranks of time-slots. The real underlining message of the film comes out as Ron continues to perform stunts and tricks that increase viewership. The movie really is a take on the current news world. To quote Ron Burgundy, “why don’t we show them the news they want instead of the news they need?”
The Legend Continues really doesn’t have all of the great quotable lines of the original but it does have more jokes than one could count. So many that the movie really never has much time to build up any real story or deeper level of comedy. The movie is incredibly random and in that, it finds its charm. It’s unexpected. It’s the news. Enough lights and sounds to keep you guessing what can possibly come next, while keeping you distracted from the fact that there is never any substance to the story that is being told.
The satirical take on the news and constant one-liners are the heart and soul of this sequel. The satire gives relevance and the randomness and incredible bout of jokes makes this movie one you might have to watch twice just to get all of the humor.
