Keeping your kids physically active is essential, especially during the first years of their lives, as that will put a mark on their future development. A toddler is full of energy, and engaging him or her in fun activities that take place outside is a sure way to put all that energy to good use.
Combine basic math lessons with fun in a hopscotch game
This activity is ideal for toddlers. You only have to draw a hopscotch grid on the ground, and number the divisions. While hopping from one area to another can be a lot of fun for a toddler, you can use this game to teach him or her basic math.
Insist on the association between the various grid areas and numbers. You will be surprised how easily kids memorize things when they are learning them throughout a game. It will also develop their physical strength.
Make gigantic bubbles
One of the games toddlers love playing is making bubbles out of soap and water. Grab some liquid soap, warm water, and glycerin, and create a concoction for making bubbles that will have your toddler squeal with delight. You will also need a wand for blowing the bubbles, and you must show your kid how it’s done.
Your toddler will have a lot of fun making the bubbles, releasing them into the air, and trying to catch them. This activity is best carried on outside, so use any sunny day as an excuse for going out in the park, or at least in the backyard for fun games with your child.
Play hide and seek in your garden
Hide and seek is a great game to play with your toddler. It develops cognitive skills, as your child will learn about the best places to hide, as well as social skills since it’s an activity that helps create a bond between parents and children.
Make sure that you play hide and seek somewhere your kid can’t get lost, such as your garden. Encourage him or her to find places to hide, such as behind trees or bushes. For your peace of mind, teach your kid to call for you while you carry on with your search as if you cannot find him or her.
In case you have a pair of binoculars from Wingspan, you may even search the farthest corners of your garden, should your toddler become an expert at hide and seek.
Playing in a sandbox
A lot of kids love playing in a sandbox, and such items are available for sale, along with assorted toys. It is a great way to stimulate his or her imagination, as sand can be modeled in various ways. Your toddler will have a blast just by using the different toys for building shapes.
Playing in a sandbox promotes family bonding, as well. Don’t hesitate to teach your child how to create various sand buildings, and praise all of his or her efforts.
Organize a scavenger hunt
Another game you can organize in your garden is a scavenger hunt. While this type of activity can involve kids of many different ages, toddlers will take part in it with great enthusiasm, as well. You can play this game with a larger group of children. Split them into teams, and assign parts of the garden for each of them.
Hide toys and other objects that will cause the delight of everyone involved in different places. This type of game will stimulate your toddler’s natural curiosity, and also contributes to the development of various motor skills. Just make sure that there won’t be too much drama over the treasures found.
