The summer may feel like it’s beginning to wind down and even if you haven’t managed to get away quite yet, it’s still not too late. Whilst weather might start to fade and leaves may begin early stages of turning about now, there are still affordable and certainly brag-worthy destinations to fled to for some final bit of summer sun… but only if you’re in the know. And with somewhere like Croatia, you don’t need a big budget or to win the jackpot on Slots to have a good holiday.
Despite a huge rise in tourism in recent years thanks to music festivals and emerging party islands, there are still a surprisingly large amount of people who don’t realise the potential that Croatia has to be a perfect holiday for all ages. Turquoise seas and colourful cities await and here are 5 things to do in Croatia…
- Visit Split
Whilst Split is a popular tourist spot, it is also a very real city. Located in the south, the people of Split are regarded as more humble and more relaxed than those in the northern capital of Zagreb and this is reflected no better than by the amount of coffee spots and bars in the city.
- Take a ferry
Sticking in Split, the Dalmatian city has a huge port and acts as a springboard to some of the country’s most amazing spots. If you visit Split, make sure you leave on a ferry and visit one of the many, many islands in the Adriatic.
- Visit Vis
Whilst the trendy young people of today may flock to Hvar, something of a Dalmatian Ibiza for partygoers and dance music lovers, there are so many more options for the average tourist. If you like tranquility, look no further than Vis. The island is one of those accessible via ferry from Split and boasts countless beaches. With only two ferries coming in and out of the main town every day, this is a quiet spot where barring an initial rush post-ferry, the island is wonderfully sleepy.
- Plitvice Lakes
Moving away from the turquoise sea, be it via bus, coach or by renting a car, you can see water even more stunning that that on the coast. Plitvice Lakes is becoming the worst kept secret in Croatia where stunning, crystal clear lakes host an abundance of fish and hundreds of waterfalls stun tourists nearly everyday.
A national park, this wonder of the world was sadly caught up in the Yugoslavian war in the 20th century but, expertly preserved by the local tourism board, it is back to it’s breathtaking best. Don’t go to Croatia and miss this. Also, don’t forget to check out the online slot collection over at slotsbaby.
- Eat ćevapi
If you’re not a veggie, you’re going to want to sample this Croatian delicacy. Enjoyed throughout the Balkans, this is essentially a skinless sausage made from all kinds of meat (lamb, veal, pork or beef), along with somun and onion. Have it on the barbecue for the true summer experience or grilled in a local bar. Served in various ways, this tasty treat will be one to remember long after your flight back home.
