How to Visit NYC with a Baby

This post is brought to you by libertycruise.nyc.

When thinking of infant-friendly destinations, NYC does not always spring to mind, but you should try it. Not only will you love it, but also you will feel like going back again.

Here are some tips for visiting New York City with a baby:

See if the Airline Offers Infant-friendly Seats

Going on a plane with a child is a daunting experience. However, you can ease some stress by finding out if the airline offers infant-friendly seats. If the seats have a bulkhead design and a fold down table, you can attach the baby’s seat there.

If you are not keen on using public transport with a baby, you should hail a yellow cab to get to your hotel from the airport. At JFK, there are many different taxi sizes, this means that the baby stroller and other things will fit comfortably. If you are heading to Manhattan, there is a fixed fare from JFK airport and you can use cash or a card to pay.

Once you get to your destination, you should consider taking a tour boat to the Statue of Liberty to see more sights.

Wear Your Most Comfortable Trainers

There is a huge public transport system in the Big Apple, but like with any busy city, getting around with a stroller is no easy feat. To avoid being stuck in traffic, you should wear some comfortable trainers and start walking. Walking around the city with a baby can enrich your experience, as you will find many landmarks around each corner.

If you start to feel tired, you can get on a bus, but you will have to fold your stroller. If you are using the subway, make sure that you avoid it during rush hour because there is a heavy flow of foot traffic at those times.

Get out Early

Whether the baby or jet lag is getting you up early, you should take advantage of it. You can walk around the streets of Manhattan in the morning because it is much easier than navigating them during the day with a stroller. Not only that, but you can see the sights in a quiet environment before everyone else gets up. Moreover, you will be the first person to queue at busy sights and see the best things.

Duck into a Playground to Escape the Hustle and Bustle of the City

Even though it is a bustling city, New York has numerous kids’ playgrounds in it. They give you a chance to chat and mingle with the local families and they make a perfect pit stop to feed your baby. If you feel like the rest of the city is too busy, you can escape to the playground for a while before heading back to your hotel.

Enjoy a Night Out

Enjoying a bit of the nightlife in New York with a baby is quite possible. Of course, most bars have a strict over 21 only policy, but if you plan, you might find a few exceptions. Hotel bars are usually more family friendly because they allow babies.

Honor Naptime

Although many travel experts claim that traveling with a baby is easy, it is not always true. The child can sleep anywhere, but the child will not rest peacefully and might wake up cranky and tired. To avoid this, you should honor at least one naptime.

Buy a Waterproof Stroller Shield

If it starts raining suddenly, you need to have a waterproof shield that will protect your baby from the elements. You should not leave your hotel room without one because the weather in New York changes at a moment’s notice.
