If you are a crafter at all (even just a little bit), a Silhouette machine is a really handy thing to have around! With the broad range of mediums that it can cut, you are sure to find a use for it that will make your crafting so much easier. Think you aren’t creative enough for a Silhouette? Well think again. I am not usually one who comes up with her own ideas on what to make. I peruse craft stores, home décor stores, and Pinterest (of course) to get my inspiration and you can too!

Since I received a bunch of Christmas items to use with my Silhouette Portrait, I decided a Christmas project was in order. I had a piece of wood lying around that have been saving since this summer because I knew it could be made into something great. When I received a machine that could cut vinyl, I knew exactly what that piece of wood was going to be. A JOY sign for my front porch this Christmas! The steps were quite easy because all I had to do was cut the vinyl. The ‘J’ and ‘Y’ letters were cut from the Red Premium Vinyl that Silhouette America sent me, and the ‘O’ is cut from the double-sided adhesive paper. Since it is sticky on both sides, I covered it with the gold glitter that came in the starter kit. It turned out so cute and even my husband was impressed ;).
My next project is something that I have been wanting to do for a long time, and when I saw the Printable Gold Foil, I knew I had the perfect items to create what I wanted. Gold is definitely the trend these days, and this printable Gold Foil is so great! It is thicker than I expected which was nice, and so easy to work with. I painted black stripes onto a 16 x 20 canvas and using a few state shapes that I purchased in the Silhouette store, I made a darling sign that shows where my husband and I have lived during the 12 years we’ve been married. I then cut a saying from vinyl that says “I’ll Follow YOU Anywhere”, and TA-DA!!! It was so simple and looks great in my entryway.
A smaller project I did was to give my cell phone cover a little boost. Before I received the Silhouette Portrait, I had a mint green phone cover but now I have a mint green cover with 3 gold feathers on it. It is so cute and was such an easy way to give my phone a new look! All I had to do was purchase a feather set from the Silhouette Design store and cut it from the Printable Gold Foil with my machine. Gold and mint is one of my favorite color combos, and I just love my new cell phone cover!
The Silhouette Portrait is the smaller out of the two Silhouette machines (the other being the Silhouette CAMEO). The interface is easy to use with just a few buttons including 2 different load buttons depending on what you are cutting), unload button, power button, and a pause button. You really can’t get too confused when it comes to working this machine. The
