It’s Worth It to Research Your Benefits Before Open Enrollment

Preparation. Are you good at it, or not? I tend to be a little on the procrastination side of life.  It doesn’t always serve me well. So I’m trying to turn over a new leaf. Join me?

What would happen if you were to get injured or sick and you were out of work for a period of time? You may think you’re all set if you have medical insurance. But what about daily living? Sure, that outrageous hospital bill is {partially} paid for, but what about everything else?

It is so important to take time and research your benefit options BEFORE open enrollment occurs to change your benefits. Ahh… that whole, prepared thing again. Well, when it comes to your insurance needs, it’s important. Not knowing all your options can cost you money in the long run. And who wants that? Certainly, I do not. I’d like to keep my money, thank you very much.

I’m sure you’ve seen Aflac commercials. They’re the best, aren’t they? But have you really taken the time to look over all their great benefits? Aflac offers a great WorkForces Report for more information on open enrollment.

Make preparation fun. How does dinner and benefits night sound? Get a sitter and go out, or make a fancy dinner right at home. Candlelight and insurance options… what could be more romantic? If you make a plan, and make it fun, you might actually DO it. Which can help you avoid stress and money loss in the long run. Do your homework. It always helped in in high school, right? Well it will help you make your benefit decision greatly. Read over your policy from the year before. Were there ways you could have saved money?

Does your employer have educational sessions to help explain your options? Maybe you ought to go.

Aflac gives its policy holders something great- a chance to focus on their recovery, not on their financial stress. Cash benefits for things like rent, childcare, food etc. that come up after an injury or illness.

About Joanna

I am a mom to two sweet elementary-school boys named Harrison & Ruben. They are my greatest gift! I have a degree in Early Childhood Education, and my life revolves around little people- I work as a nanny as well as being a mom. We live in Minnesota, therefore we love summertime. =) Life consists of lots of books, walks in the woods, church, friends, grandparents, Minecraft, football and soccer, music, play-dates, wine (only some of us), love, kisses, and of course, blogging.
