I have really been interested in My Family History the last year or so. I received a membership from ancestry.com to review. My brother has really been talking about researching about our ancestors and I know he really enjoys it. So it got me thinking on how I could learn more. That is when I turned to ancestry.com
Ancestry.com is a great place to get started into Family History if you are a beginner like me or all the way up to an advanced searcher! When I first started looking, I thought I would be overwhelmed BUT ancestry.com is a great place to start. I can enter my name, spouses name and my parents names and birthdates and just from that little information I was able to research and find tons of people!
What I discovered as I was researching my family is that it is addicting! I would get started on one name and then a little leaf would pop up next to that name which is a hint at a record found! I would click on the leaf and there was additional info on that person as well as tons of info on other ancestors.
One thing I discovered while doing my family history was that my Grandpa actually had a sister named Charlotte! I had no idea when I named my daughter Charlotte that we actually had an ancestor with the exact same name…how cool is that!
What I love about ancestry.com is that it is very user friendly. I love that as your inputting your own info that the site is actually already searching. I have found pictures, marriage certificates, birth certificates, death certificates, pictures of gravestones etc.
There is also an entire network of people researching along with you! It’s great that with one click I can learn so much!
