I attended an advanced screening for my review. All opinions are my own.
“From writer and director John Krasinski, IF is about a girl who discovers that she can see everyone’s imaginary friends — and what she does with that superpower — as she embarks on a magical adventure to reconnect forgotten IFs with their kids. IF stars Cailey Fleming, Ryan Reynolds, John Krasinski, Fiona Shaw, and the voices of Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Louis Gossett Jr. and Steve Carell alongside many more as the wonderfully unique characters that reflect the incredible power of a child’s imagination.”
My kids and I have been very excited to see IF. We loved the trailers for the film. We all enjoyed watching the movie.
My kids loved all the animated IFs. They thought they were all hilarious. Their favorites were Marshmallow and Blue, the big purple monster. I loved the voice cast, especially Steve Carell as Blue.
Visually, the movie was stunning. The IFs all looked incredible and are blended perfectly into the real-world environments. I loved how colorful the movie was.
The movie is also very funny. I love Ryan Reynolds and thought he was perfectly cast as Cal. There are so many funny moments and many of them involve Ryan. My kids and I laughed a lot.
I loved the message of the story. The story talks about that you are never too old to have imagination and to write your own stories. I did think the pacing of the story needed a little help. There were a few parts that my kids did get a little restless. The plot was also a little predictable. But I love that John Krasinski wrote this story for his daughters and to tell how important family relationships are.
IF is rated PG “for thematic elements and mild language.” I feel that this movie is appropriate for most ages. It will be a good movie for the whole family to see together.
My kids and I really enjoyed IF. We loved watching it together and I can recommend it!
IF gets bragging rights!
