There’s a good reason why we all turn to the beach for a family fun time. Not only do we get to enjoy the beautiful scenery, but we also have the opportunity to bond with the people we love the most: our families.
Bringing the kids to the beach, however, is a little trickier than having only adults. Kids need to be entertained more. Fortunately, there’s plenty of fantastic beach destinations in the country, such as the white sand beaches in Batangas or the pebble beaches of Surigao del Norte. The right destination, coupled with enough preparation and planning, can make the trip more fun for your kids. In this post, we’re sharing with you some great tips that will help make your trip to the beach more memorable, especially for your little ones:
1. Prepare for the trip to and from the beach.
Will you be having a long drive or commute going to the beach? If so, make sure you have plenty of snacks, fluids, and toys for your kids so they won’t fuss on the way there (and going back). It can be stressful just sitting in a vehicle full of unruly and hungry kids, so it’s always best to keep them calm and happy so everyone has a fun time.
2. Have an umbrella or sunscreen.
If you’re spending a day at the beach with family, you should never be without an umbrella or sunscreen. Kids’ skins are more sensitive, which means they also need more protection. When shopping for sunscreen, look for one with at least SPF 30 that also blocks out UVA and UVB rays. You’ll be needing this too, especially since skin cancer is on the rise.
3. Plan out some fun and exciting beach activities beforehand.
While there’s nothing wrong with being spontaneous, sometimes being prepared creates a more splashing experience for your kids and the entire family. Below are some favorite beach activities that your toddlers are sure to enjoy:
- Building a sand castle
- Making a sea creature
- Tossing around a beach ball
- Scavenger or treasure hunt
- Obstacle race
- Playing tic-tac-toe on the sand
Another great thing about planning is that you also know what to bring with you for the activities. Like if you’re making sand castles, it’s always nice to have a small shovel and bucket. You can also just tell your kids to use their creativity when sculpting a sea creature using only the materials they can find on the beach.
4. Bring a sand-proof and water-proof camera.
Your kids’ memories of the beach are ones to keep. That’s why it pays to invest in a sand-proof and water-proof camera so you can take plenty of photos and videos without worrying about sand or water getting in. Also, focus more on videos if possible. They provide a better insight into those moments that photos can’t, and your kids will enjoy watching more, too.
5. Don’t be afraid to disconnect.
Parents, your time with your kids is precious. It can be easy to get sucked into the digital world and forget that the real world is right in front of you. Connect with your kids and disconnect from social media. Don’t worry, you won’t miss out on anything online, and you can share all those beautiful photos and videos after your beach trip. As the parenting expert, Dawn Lantero, once said, “time spent playing with children is never wasted.”
Make your kids’ trip to the beach a memorable one
What children truly want isn’t expensive toys or a lavish trip to an amusement park. What they crave the most is time with you and the freedom to unleash their playful and creative side. And there’s no better place to do that than on the beach. So, what are you waiting for? Plan a trip to the beach now and create more lasting memories for the entire family.
