Spa services such as facial masks have a whole range of benefits, from improving skin tones to preventing sagging skin and wrinkles. Unfortunately, spa treatments are a luxury that not everyone can afford. Fortunately, you don’t have to spend a lot of money (or even leave your comfortable kitchen) just to get some tender loving care at your local spa. By using ingredients you may already have in your fridge or pantry, you can create your own yummy face masks at home.
Try out these four easy face-mask recipes to finally get that glow and moisture you’ve always wanted.
Cocoa Hydration Mask
You will need: cocoa powder, an avocado, honey
Cocoa powder is a good source of antioxidants, which fight off free radicals to keep skin looking young and healthy. It also has anti-inflammatory properties and can help in reducing pimples and the redness that acne brings. Avocado has hydrating properties, and honey is both antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. Together, these ingredients can help you achieve clear, youthful skin!
Instructions: Cut the avocado into quarters, and place one quarter in a small bowl. Add in 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder. Mash all ingredients together, then apply the mask to clean, dry skin. Leave on for 10 minutes, then wash it off with warm water. Apply moisturizer afterward.
Tropical Banana Face Mask
You will need: a banana, orange juice, honey
The banana is a natural moisturizer that leaves skin feeling and looking a lot softer. Orange juice shrinks open pores, and honey has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties that can help clean the skin and reduce redness from pimples. When combined, these three make a face mask that’s gentle enough for any skin type and leaves a healthy, natural glow.
Instructions: Cut the banana in half, and place one-half in a bowl. Add in 1 tablespoon each of orange juice and honey. Mash and mix the ingredients together—don’t worry too much about the lumps. Apply the face mask and leave on for 15 minutes. Afterward, wash off with lukewarm water and apply moisturizer.
Rejuvenating Matcha Face Mask
You will need: matcha green tea powder, organic coconut oil, water
Matcha green tea is chock-full of antioxidants that help get rid of free radicals from the body. It also allows the skin to better absorb vitamin D and helps ward off premature aging. Coconut oil has been considered a miracle oil for a variety of reasons: it’s naturally antifungal and antibacterial, has moisturizing properties, and contains healthy fats and vitamin E that help smoothen skin. When mixed together, they form a rejuvenating face mask that’s perfect for dry skin.
Instructions: In a bowl, mix a small amount of water and half a teaspoon of organic coconut oil with 2 teaspoons of matcha green tea powder to create a thick paste. Apply this paste to a clean, dry face and neck. Leave the mask on for 15 to 20 minutes, then rinse off with lukewarm water.
Easy Honey Citrus Glow Mask
You will need: honey, orange juice
The antibacterial properties of honey helps eliminate the bacteria that may be residing on your skin. Orange juice, on the other hand, is a good source of vitamin C and helps tighten open pores. When combined, these ingredients provide a great quick fix to bring out a pretty glow from dull skin.
Instructions: Measure 1/4 cup of honey and mix with 3 tablespoons of orange juice. Once fully combined, rub the resulting mixture on your face lightly. Let stay for 15 minutes, and then rinse off with lukewarm water. Apply moisturizer to seal in the good stuff afterward.
