4 Outdated Home Decor Trends You Should Ignore In 2022

Interior design trends come and go, but some stick around for much longer than others. We have timeless trends that will look good in your home for years, possibly even decades.

At the same time, we have trends that quickly become outdated. That’s the focus for today; here’s a selection of outdated home decor trends you need to ignore in 2022 and beyond:

Glass TV units

There was a time when almost every household had the same glass TV stand. It looked cool, but this has quickly become a forgotten trend. Instead, homeowners are encouraged to opt for trendier lowline entertainment units that look much better and add more practicality to the living room. If you’re still rocking your glass TV stand, it’s probably time to ditch it and look for something else.

Funnily enough, that links to trend number two!

Fast furniture

You may have heard of fast fashion, which is a concept that links to our desire to constantly buy loads of new clothes again and again. Fast furniture is the same; we have a tendency to get rid of old things and instantly get the newer model in.

Needless to say, in today’s eco-conscious world, this is a very outdated trend. Instead, homeowners are told to hang onto things for as long as possible. Invest in restoration services for old furniture or buy second-hand items when you need to upgrade. Dipping into the vintage market is such a good idea, reducing furniture waste while ensuring your home looks amazing.

Signs around the house

This became a trend a few years ago where loads of interior designers thought it was nice to hang signs inside the home. You’d have a sign on the bathroom door telling you it was the bathroom – or you’d get a sign in the kitchen with a common phrase on it.

If you’re a fan of these, you won’t want to hear that they have fallen out of trend a lot. They’re seen as tacky and outdated now, so maybe you should consider taking them down.

All-white kitchens

Again, people used to go crazy for kitchens that were completely white. The brightness and minimalism made them look really nice, but this style quickly became boring and threw up a whole variety of problems.

Obviously, an all-white kitchen is a pain to clean. But, it’s also just not that pleasing on the eye after a while. Instead, people have started adding more colours to their white kitchens, juxtaposing white walls with black cabinets and other darker accents, etc.

Staying on top of home decor and interior design trends is almost impossible. Things can change so quickly, but it is useful to learn when stuff is out of fashion. Keeping your home updated with modern trends will ensure it always looks fantastic. Plus, if you are trying to sell your home, you need it to look trendy. If it is full of outdated home decor, it will be much harder for you to sell it for a good price.
