23 Blast is a wonderful new movie which is based on the true story of Travis Freeman who grew up in a small town in Kentucky. Travis was the typical teenager and loved football. He bet his best friend Jerry Baker while playing pee wee football. These 2 were inseparable and went on to play High School Football together at Corbin High School. Travis was known as the football star on and off the field. He was always seen as a great guy who could play football really well. Until one day where he woke up without any sight. Travis had an infection that spread and caused him to become blind. Through that challenge he became a better person as did those around him. Jerry and Travis worked together along with Travis’s parents and friends. The coach was always behind Travis and knew how much he loved the game. Through his faith Travis overcame and was able to help bring the team to the state playoffs!
I really enjoyed this movie. It is rated PG-13 for teenage drinking and crude reference. Honestly I would show this to my girls. This was an awe inspiring message of how you can do anything that you try to do! I love how Jerry never gave up on Travis, even though a lot of times Jerry was left behind. I also love that they remained friends and always supported each other even when times got tough! I absolutely loved this movie. It was such a feel good movie. My favorite part was the elevator scene, it had me rolling around laughing!
I also loved how his parents supported him no matter what, he also had a great mobility coach named Patty who pushed him to be the best that he can be! I also really loved that the Preacher at church really made him realize and see that He is Travis Freeman no matter what and God is always on his side.
“23 Blast is based on the amazingly true story of Travis Freeman. A typical teenager growing up in a small town in Kentucky, Travis is a local hero on and off the field. In the fall of 1997, in the prime of his youth, he is unexpectedly stricken with an infection that destroys his optic nerve. He becomes blind overnight. Under the influence of parents who love him, a physical therapist who challenges him, a coach who inspires him, and a best friend who he cannot bear to leave behind, Travis shows us what true bravery is by competing on the gridiron, helping his team advance to the State playoffs. We follow Travis and Jerry Baker, his closest friend, from the time they meet on the football field as kids through high school. Jerry’s attraction to the dark side of teenage temptations, beer and drugs, threatens to pull the friends apart. It is only on the football field where they truly connect.” (23 Blast website)
