I attended an advance screening of this movie. All opinions are my own.
“JOY is the wild story of a family across four generations centered on the girl who becomes the woman who founds a business dynasty and becomes a matriarch in her own right. Betrayal, treachery, the loss of innocence and the scars of love, pave the road in this intense emotional and human comedy about becoming a true boss of family and enterprise facing a world of unforgiving commerce. Allies become adversaries and adversaries become allies, both inside and outside the family, as Joy’s inner life and fierce imagination carry her through the storm she faces. Jennifer Lawrence stars, with Robert De Niro, Bradley Cooper, Edgar Ramirez, Isabella Rossellini, Diane Ladd, and Virginia Madsen. Like David O. Russell’s previous films, Joy defies genre to tell a story of family, loyalty, and love.” (C) Fox
I was very intrigued by the trailer for Joy. I was excited because Jennifer Lawrence was in it. Also, in the trailer, they never reveal what invention the character created. I wanted to know, so I had to see the movie. Overall, I really enjoyed watching this film.
The main reason this movie is worth watching is because of the great acting from all the cast. Jennifer Lawrence was fantastic as Joy. I did not realize that Joy was actually based on a real person. Jennifer Lawrence gives a great performance of a young woman discovering her self and that a woman can be strong and stand up for herself.
I thought that the story line was slow moving at the beginning. It took me awhile to really get into the film. Once I felt emotionally involved, I really loved the story. I am not going to spoil anything but Joy’s invention is a very familiar object. I did not realize that a woman had invented this product. I really liked that one of the main messages in the movie is about empowering women. There are many strong women that are referenced in this film such as Joan Rivers, who is played by her daughter Melissa Rivers.
This movie is definitely for mom and dad. There is some language and kids will probably be bored with the story. This would be a great movie for a date night.
I liked Joy and would probably watch it again.
