I received travel accommodations courtesy of Sony to attend this press junket.
I was very excited when I was invited with a group of select bloggers to attend the Press Junket in LA for #SexTapeMovie starring Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel.
During the junket I got to view a pre-screening of the movie and interview Cameron Diaz, Jason Segel and Director Jake Kasdan all while staying at the luxurious Four Seasons in Beverly Hills!
Interview with Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel about their new movie Titled Sex Tape
It was set up as a round table interview with Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel together. There were 8 bloggers and it was a really fun time chatting with Cameron and Jason. They are very funny and had us laughing the entire time!
Jason entered the room first, he got in really good shape for this movie and it is clear seeing him in person. As he was sitting down someone asked
How do you stay fit?
Jason: I got in good shape for this one [movie]. The shame is that there is no mystery it turns out, I always thought there was. It’s just like eating healthy and exercising. It’s such a bummer.
Cameron enters the room as he is answering the question. OMG she is even MORE gorgeous in person!
As Cameron gets settled in her seat one of the bloggers mentions she has a hard time eating healthy. Saying she loves chocolate, ice cream and cream puffs. To that Cameron responds.
About eating treats
Cameron: I don’t see anything wrong with it as long as you do a little bit rather than only and a lot of it. You know everybody thinks that discipline means deprivation and really discipline lets you have everything you want. If you think of it. So if you can discipline yourself to take just a little bit, you can have what you want. Then you can have more of what you want over here, and here (as she gestures to different hypothetical foods). Instead of being like, I’m taking all of this and the rest of everything else you feel like you can’t have.
Jason: I’m waiting until they change the box size. Because to me, they have this thing that says serving size, but to me a serving is the box. In my opinion.
Now that you have both sung on screen and appeared nude on screen, which is more nerve racking for you?
Cameron: Singing is terrifying.
Jason: singing is terrifying. To be honest, I know there is an image of what a Hollywood actor body should look like. But the reality is people are all built differently and this and that. So I appreciate seeing regular people doing their job. But you really don’t want to hear an average singer. You know what I mean? You can really hear a bad note.
How do you get comfortable and break the ice for the love scenes?
Cameron: They‘re just silly [the love scenes]. We are making a comedy. We are not actually naked.
We saw your bottom.
Cameron: Well that’s my bum (she says in a silly voice). Everybody has seen my bum. I mean, I wear teeny tiny bikinis. All you are missing is the whole crack together. If I’m wearing a bikini you see the bottom half of the crack. If I am wearing a pair of jeans you see the top part of it. This time you just get to see
Jason: Continuous crack
Cameron: I mean it is just a butt.
Jason: When we were shooting the movie we are wearing these modesty garments so she from the front it actually looks like a bikini, it’s no more risqué than a bikini. But then the back is exposed which I think it would be a great new fashion trend.
Were you guys coming up with different positions?
Jason: We were.
Cameron: Do we have salami in here you guys?
Jason: The two of us Jake Kasdan our director and I hadn’t thought of it until now but our prop guy too deserves a lot of credit [Jimmy].
It’s not really intimate right? With all the cameras and lights and people…
Cameron: No it’s not at all. The only stuff that was really like sex stuff that we did was the college stuff where we were simulating sex. We are in the wide open with all these extras around us. It’s ridiculous, It’s RIDICULOUS (spoken with emphasis) what we are doing. It’s not really sexy. It’s more like a locker room vibe; it’s more like high fives. For me the hardest part was trying not to laugh. Trying to get through the whole take without laughing.
What was the funniest thing that happened while you were filming?
Cameron: It’s hard to tell, there were so many funny things.
Jason: We had a really good time. I think the funniest thing that turned into the worst thing, potentially, was that we have a pretty elaborate dog chase in the movie. And we showed up on set and it was going to be a real action packed sequence. And it was the sweetest friendliest dog you’ve ever seen in your life.
He looked scary in the movie.
Jason: Yeah we ended up making him look scary looking with some special stuff.
Cameron: And with him acting like he was terrified. That’s a puppet that he is working with and he is just making it look really ferocious.
Jason: When you see the unedited footage it just looked like Jay, my character is a total wimp because I’m terrified running from the sweetest dog of all time.
How do you think people will respond to the movie?
Jason: [after seeing the movie] I think you will get back in your car with your date or your husband or your wife, and as you are driving home you will have a laugh about some of the funny things that were in it. Then there will be a slightly awkward pause and you will drive in silence for a minute. Then the real discussion will start about “you know we haven’t had as much sex as we used to”. I think that is a really good function of the movie, is to start the conversation. “Hey you know maybe there is something to that what they were talking about there”
Cameron: Maybe we need to communicate our needs a little better so that we can connect.
It was such a fun interview (more like chatting and laughing with friends). Cameron and Jason were so fun to talk to and very nice to us all. We were even able to snap a quick group photo!
Stay tuned for my Q & A with Director Jake Kasdan and my review of the movie coming later this week…
