Moms are always on the go. Especially young ones, with little children and toddlers, or the ones who are trying to juggle raising their bundle of joy, keeping up a happy marriage and staying on top of things at work. It’s no walk in the park, so trying to do all that and still looking fashionable and chic may prove to be more difficult than you think. Therefore, here are some much needed tips on how to jazz up your mommy attire with just a few touches.
#1. Matching outfits. If you have a little girl it’s very easy to do. Just replicate your skirt and blouse outfit on a tiny scale, dress your doll up and watch as everybody ooooohs and aaawwwws when they see you. However, if you want to really make their jaw drop, try the ‘matching outfit’ solution when you have a baby boy. Compose an outfit out of denim jeans, a white shirt, and classic black suit jacket. He can wear little red converses and you can wear your favorite red pumps. Wow!
#2. The maxi skirt. There’s just something about wearing a maxi skirt. It looks very regal, like the woman wearing it is a princess or a fairy just strolling down the cobbled streets of the busy city. Which is actually what makes the maxi skirt the perfect solution to step up your mommy outfit. All in a fun and relaxed way, while still allowing you to run around after the little one. Choose a cream colored skirt, pair it off munchkin’s stuff and you’re mommy on to go!
#3. The leather jacket and hat ensemble. If it’s cold outside, but you still need to get your tyke outside for some fresh air or for him to play with the falling yellowing leaves or with the puppies in the park, you will need an outfit that’s both strong against the cold and chic and fashionable. The quick fix comes from pairing a pair of baggy jeans with a cool black leather jacket, a cozy knitted sweater, and a classic hat. Hats have been very much in this year and they’ve made a huge comeback. So keep it classy and stylish even at the park, with this casual-rock-chic look.
#4. The amazing and elegant bag. Ok, so maybe you were in such a rush this morning with having to prepare breakfast, dress the little one, see your husband off to work and answer all your office e-mails that you didn’t actually have time to put together an amazing outfit for today, but you still want to feel like a million bucks when the two of you go for a walk. The simple solution is to wear whatever you want but add a show-stopping bag. Oversize it, don’t be afraid. Either leather or canvas, choose a classical, timeless piece, and watch all the other moms gasp because they are all wearing diaper bags. Nothing says “I’ve got this, I’m a wonder woman” better than pulling a baby bottle out of a one of a kind elegant leather statement bag.
#5. The relaxing day outfit. This one is for when you want to look cool and chic but casual and approachable at the same time. It is also suitable for the times when you don’t want to spend much time styling, you just want a relaxing day next to your kid. There are a lot of funny Australian tshirts out there and you can pair them off with almost anything: skirts, pants, jeans, sweatpants, and overalls. If you are too tired, though, and you want to stay at home, one good alternative would be to wear a comfortable bathrobe. There are a lot of cotton bathrobes for kids every mommy can choose from. You just have to find the one that matches better your preferences.
#6. Overalls. There is probably no other outfit better suited for raising children then the denim overall. They should sell it at Prada and add diamonds on it and then we could build them a shrine for getting our ladies through the toughest of their maternity times. Roll up the cuff above your ankles and wear a killer set of heels, either nude or in a crazy color to show you too are in a playful mood, not just your kid. Add the leopard sunglasses and a white tank top and maternity fashion heaven, here we come!
#7. Moving towards our bohemian side, we propose the kimono. It has been in very high regards the past couple of years and it’s been mostly known as “Coachella” fashion, but that doesn’t mean you can’t bring it into the street. Short shorts, preferably denim or white cotton ones, mandatory crop tops, round “John Lennon” sunglasses and strings of black beads turn this outfit into a veritable hippie dream.
#8. Keeping in theme, we suggest the boho head band. This is, yet again, another trick designed to pull you out of the crowd when you didn’t have time to throw on something stylish. So let’s say you’re wearing a simple skirt and t-shirt ensemble, jeans and crop top, shorts and an oversized t-shirt. Ok, then the bohemian head band is the key for you. You can wear a simple leather one, a knitted one or even one with some flowers, for a really comfy and adorable, but chic look.
#9. Animal print sneakers. When you’re a mommy, wearing high heels is not an option. Most of the time you have to be able to run around after your little one, play with him or simply walk around and stand on your feet all day long doing numerous chores. So, if you don’t want your feet to hurt like crazy in the evening or swell up the size of Hulk’s feet, you’d better wear sneakers. But, since I know you want to look fancy, I propose the animal print sneaker, guaranteed to draw some attention. You can find them in thousands of models, almost anywhere and at cheap prices.
#10. The last item on our list is the show stopping red dress. I could not have possibly written this article without including a note on this. There are ways to be comfortable and still look amazing. Like this red dress I found, which for me is perfection itself. I’d definitely wear it.
It’s very simple, as you can see, which means it’s comfortable. It’s body fitting, but not too tight, like a Herve Leger bandage dress would be, for example. It’s long and very elegant, it has long sleeves if you need to take your toddler outside for a minute or two and an outstanding naked back, complete with a ribbon. This dress truly embodies the spirit of Christmas.
So there you have it. Your ten tips on how to look perfect and chic even when traipsing around the playground trying to convince your kid to stay still for just one minute.
