How to be a Digital Mommy

This is a sponsored guest post.

Being a mom these days is a lot harder than it used to be. With all the demands on our time, it’s hard to keep up sometimes! Technology can be a blessing and a curse, but it’s definitely something you need to deal with.

Do you want to be a digital mommy? Keep reading for your quick guide!

A Double-Edged Sword

Every mommy wants their child to succeed. It’s our job to prepare our children for the world they have to make their way through. Technological skills are not really optional anymore, they are a strict requirement. As a mom, you’re going to have to make sure your children can cope with the technological landscape around them.

But this principle can be taken too far. Some parents let their kids watch television for sixty plus hours a week. Other parents abandon their young children to an unsupervised internet designed primarily to sell pornography to adults.

You’re going to have to step up to the plate. You will have to walk the very fine line between exposing your children to appropriate technology and keeping them grounded in the real world as well.

The Device Dilemma

One of the major debates amongst parents these days is the Great Device Debate. Should you, or shouldn’t you, allow children access to digital devices like computers, smartphone, and tablets.

It’s a complicated issue because you have at least two competing desires. On the one hand, you want your child to be digitally savvy. On the other hand, you don’t want your child to become one of these mindless digital zombies that can’t seem to find their way out of a paper bag.

The digital world is vast and diverse, and it connects us to other people around the world with similar interests and ideas to ours. But the digital world will never be as complicated and rich as the real, natural world. The best way we can help our kids become competent might be to disconnect them from the internet and thrown them into the natural environment.

Use Technology To Your Advantage

You can’t turn your back on technology. You should use it to your advantage! Digital mommies use tech to make their lives easier and more efficient. Efficiency is one of the best ways that a busy mom can improve the quality of her life. Technology can be the key to opening the door to efficiency.

Consider your daily routine. It probably includes activities like making your kids breakfast, taking them to school, maybe you’re running a business on the side – you know, mommy stuff. By increasing your efficiency, you’ll increase the amount of time you have available to do those things. It’s like getting something for free. You still accomplish the same things, but t take less time!

You can use technology to your advantage to become more efficient. Being a mom is like being the CEO of a small corporation. Decisions need to be made, and plans need to be kept.

You can use the technology tools of a small business to organize your mommy business!

Use organizing tools like calendar apps, and reminder apps to keep yourself on track. Some moms even get VPS hosting to set up their own family websites.

Kids Are Tougher Than You Think

Some of the wonders of the modern technological world are the safety devices and equipment we take for granted all the time. Cars used to be made of heavy steel and the didn’t have seatbelts or airbags. Modern equipment makes us safer and more productive.

However, many moms push their theory too far. The result is a generation of entitled, protected children who aren’t able to cope with the realities of life. Mommies want to protect their children at the same time they want to empower them. One of the best ways we help our kids is by being the voice in their lives that controls their access to technology and electronics.

Set a time limit on tablets. Video games are a reward for good grades, not an entitlement. A kid should be able to climb a tree, and a good mother shouldn’t freak out because their kid jumps into a wet pile of leaves in autumn. Being dirty isn’t dangerous. A good mom pushes their children into the real world by unplugging the technology, and forcing them to deal with the world as it really is, not as seen through a digital filter provided by the internet.
