I love using games in my classroom. It is definitely a fun way of helping students to learn new concepts. I was very excited to choose 3 products to review from Super Duper Publications. I received the Pirate Talk board game, the Grammar Gumball board game, and the MagneTalk match up adventure kit.
The Pirate Talk Board game is a fantastic game! My students absolutely loved it. The main purpose of this game is to work on expressive and receptive language. It works on answering questions, following directions, describing, categorizing, and more. As the children move around the game board, an adult tells them a statement with a picture. The adult then asks different questions to the child about what they were told from the card. On the game board, when the child passes an island, they get to collect a certain number of coins. The person with the most coins at the end wins. My students loved collecting the gold coins because it was ‘treasure.’ They also really liked that their game pieces were pirates. I really loved that the game came with an electric spinner. I recommend using it with the sound off though, it is really loud. I loved that this game helps students with language skills.
The Grammar Gumball board game is a great game with helping children with basic grammar skills. It practices different verb tenses, pronouns, nouns, and plurals. At the beginning of the game, you fill up the gumball machine with gumballs. The children each take a turn answers questions about a picture on a card. The questions for the cards come in a separate book. If they get the questions right, they get to spin the spinner on the gumball machine. The spinner determines how many gumballs the child receives. When all the gumballs are gone, the child with the most is the winner. My students had a lot of fun with this game. They loved to answer the questions about the pictures but their favorite part was collecting the gumballs. They loved the bright colors. They were a little disappointed that the gum was not real. I really liked that it practices a lot of different verb tenses and plurals because many young children do these incorrectly.
The MagneTalk Match-up adventure kit is a great set of activities that works with lots of language and listening skills. It also is a great activity for practicing position words. With these activities, an adult can ask the children to place the magnets in certain places on the magnet board. It also works on vocabulary because you can ask them different questions about what they see. This kit also comes with an activity book full of lots of different activities for each magnet scene. One of my favorite things about this kit is that it is magnetic. This really helps with not losing all the little pieces. Plus, having the pieces stay put on the board really helps the child with not being frustrated. Children also love magnets. I am excited to use this more in my class to practice vocabulary and position words.
I love the educational games from Super Duper Publications and definitely recommend them for fun learning games!
